Full Rail Closure Between Oceanside and San Diego Scheduled This Weekend
The closure will take place from 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, through the evening on Sunday, March 13.
Full rail closures are routinely scheduled to advance rail construction and ensure worker safety. During the upcoming closure, construction activities are planned for the Poinsettia Station Improvements project in Carlsbad.
This closure will affect four rail services operating on the San Diego segment of the Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) Rail Corridor: North County Transit District (NCTD), Metrolink, Amtrak, and the freight carrier BNSF.
Regular passenger rail service is scheduled to resume on Monday, March 14. Riders are encouraged to plan for increased travel time, as trains could be delayed.
The following work will be done during the closure:
In Carlsbad, SANDAG crews will work on the tracks around the undercrossing and platform to repair leaks as part of the Poinsettia Station Improvements project. Some construction equipment may be used, and no night work is planned. This project, which improves access and safety on the LOSSAN corridor, is one of the various investments SANDAG is making to create a network of fast, frequent, and safe transit services to major destinations throughout the region.
During construction, nearby residents and businesses can expect intermittent noise and lights. Please visit GoNCTD.com, Amtrak.com, or MetrolinkTrains.com for alternate route schedules.
