Bike To Work Day Is Thursday, May 17

March 2, 2018 - The San Diego region’s Bike to Work Day, coordinated annually by SANDAG, will fall on Thursday, May 17. Last year’s riders welcomed the switch from Friday to Thursday, driving participation to a record high of 10,793 pit stop visits.

May is National Bike Month, and each year commuters choose to GO by BIKE the morning of Bike to Work Day. The event, which has been organized by SANDAG for more than 20 years, has steadily grown from a few thousand riders in its early years. With more than 1,340 miles of bikeways, the San Diego region is one of the best places in the country for people to commute on two wheels.

In addition to sunshine and fresh air, San Diegans have extra incentives to use pedal power on Bike to Work Day. Registered riders can stop and be greeted at 100 pit stops set up countywide. While there, riders can pick up a free Bike to Work Day t-shirt, grab refreshments and snacks, and get encouragement from pit stop volunteers.  To register, visit the Bike Month web page.

This year, participants are encouraged to vote for the design of the official Bike to Work Day t-shirt on the iCommute Facebook page now through March 25.

Organizations interested in hosting a pit stop are asked to apply online now through March 23. For evaluation criteria and application instructions, visit the Bike Month web page.
