Project Overview
Completed in partnership with Caltrans, the I-5/I-8 South Connector project constructed an additional northbound lane and auxiliary lanes on I-5 between I-8 and SeaWorld Drive in San Diego. It also added a lane on westbound I-8 at the northbound I-5 connector to relieve congestion at the interchange.
Schedule
Construction began in June 2014, and the connector opened to traffic in October 2015.
Budget
The project cost $16.4 million. It was funded by a mix of federal, state, and local funds, including $3.7 million from the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users, and $1.4 million from TransNet, and $10.3 million from the State Highway Operations Preservation Program.
