Bayshore Bikeway

Project Overview

This segment will provide residents of this historic community with a safe and scenic way to ride or walk along Harbor Drive. It will stretch 1.9 miles along Harbor Drive between Beardsley Street and 32nd Street and connect two existing segments of the Bayshore Bikeway. This project includes improvements for Harbor Drive intersections at 28th Street, Chicano Park Boulevard, Samson Street, and Schley Street.

SANDAG held a virtual construction information session on Monday, May 23, 2022, to provide an overview of the Bayshore Bikeway Barrio Logan segment and information about the project's construction. The Resources section below contains links to the recordings of the meeting.

Budget

Bayshore Bikeway Barrio Logan Phase 1 budget was $44.9 million. Phase 2 budget was $13 million. Phase 3 budget was $4.8 million.

Construction began in April 2020 at E Street and Bay Boulevard as part of the Costa Vista RV Resort project. The work will have minimal and periodic impacts on the Bayshore Bikeway. The bikeway will remain open, but people using it can expect some detours and temporary delays. For safety, please pay attention and adhere to all signage.

Project Overview

The National City segment of the Bayshore Bikeway features a 1-mile separated bike path along Harbor Drive from the National City boundary at the north end to Civic Center Drive and Tidelands Avenue at the south end. SANDAG also installed bike lanes on Tidelands Avenue and West 32nd Street to provide an interim route while the San Diego Port District plans the final bike path connection south of Civic Center Drive. This is part of National City's bayfront redevelopment plans.

Project Overview

Running along Harbor Drive between 32nd Street and Vesta Streets in the City of San Diego, this 0.6-mile extension was the first phase of construction for a project that will eventually connect the existing bike path in National City with the Gordy Shields Bridge over the Sweetwater River.

Project Overview

This segment of the Bayshore Bikeway covers 1.8 miles between Palomar and H streets in Chula Vista.

Schedule

In 2012, SANDAG partnered with the City of Chula Vista and the Port of San Diego to complete this segment of the Bayshore Bikeway.

This segment’s $2.5 million cost was funded by a federal Transportation Enhancement Program grant and TransNet.
