I-15 Transit Priority Lanes and Clairemont Direct Access Ramp

Caltrans and SANDAG
TRANSNET PROGRAM

SANDAG and Caltrans are working together to improve travel times and reliability on Interstate 15 (I-15). As part of this project, we’ll add two managed lanes—one in each direction—between I-8 and State Route (SR) 163. Other potential improvements include a new direct access ramp (DAR) at Clairemont Mesa Boulevard to provide better access for transit and rideshare vehicles, bridge replacements, ramp realignments, highway widening, and upgrades for pedestrian and bike access.

Project Status and Funding

As of mid-2026, this project is in the environmental phase. The design phase is anticipated to begin in 2028, with construction starting in 2031 and taking about three years. The estimated total cost is $244 million from State Transportation Improvement Program and TransNet funds.
