The new Rapid 880 route will provide a faster east-west transit connection for people in East County and Central San Diego. Students, employees, shoppers, and patients will enjoy an easier way to get to the Veterans Affairs Hospital, Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, and more. The route will start in El Cajon, pass through Santee and Kearny Mesa, and end at UC San Diego or Sorrento Mesa.
Since early 2025, SANDAG has been studying where the route could go, its potential stops, and many other details, while continuing to collect public feedback along the way to inform this process. This work will continue through 2027. Pending funding for planning, design, and construction, Rapid 880 could be open for riders as soon as 2029.
