Transit-Oriented Development

Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) is an approach to urban growth that helps people access services and activities by promoting compact city growth and integrating transit and walking/biking resources. Dense, walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods near transit attract people and contribute to vibrant, connected communities.

This approach facilitates shorter trips, better lifestyles, a healthier environment, and more efficient use of personal and public resources.  Prioritizing development around transit stations has the potential to add much needed housing, increase transit ridership, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by creating walkable communities that reduce the need to drive.
