SANDAG Recognizes 118 Local Employers For Encouraging Sustainable Transportation Choices

On Wednesday morning, SANDAG hosted its annual Diamond Awards reception at the San Diego Central Library to recognize organizations across the San Diego region who are making a difference by embracing methods to reduce traffic and promote sustainable commute choices. 

“Today, we are honoring the true champions of the San Diego region for their exceptional efforts in alleviating traffic congestion on our freeways and roads," said SANDAG and San Diego County Supervisor Chairwoman Nora Vargas. "It's truly inspiring to witness the collaborative spirit among these organizations, as they unite to empower their employees with resources that enable meaningful improvements in their daily lives. These efforts not only promote healthier lifestyles but also contribute to a reduction in emissions within our region.”

SANDAG offers complimentary assistance to organizations in the San Diego region through the Employer Commuter Program by providing commuter benefit programs that support alternatives to driving alone, including carpool, vanpool, biking, walking, transit, telework, and compressed workweek schedules. 

As a part of the Employer Commuter Program, some organizations recognized at Wednesday’s event have committed to providing additional incentives, subsidies, and pre-tax deductions to support their employees. Some of the employers provided facilities such as bike lockers, showers, dedicated parking for carpools, vanpools, and employees who rideshare, monthly prize drawings for participating employees, and more.
