The San Diego region’s 70-mile coastline is an important recreational, natural, and economic resource. Visitors and locals alike recognize the value it brings to the region. Through various monitoring and management programs, SANDAG is working to understand and mitigate the impact of rising sea levels on the region’s beaches.
Since the late 1980s, SANDAG’s Shoreline Preservation Working Group has been developing regional sediment management policies, managing an ongoing shoreline monitoring program, and completing several projects to maintain local beaches and coastlines.
