Energy impacts nearly every facet of daily life, from lighting, cooling and heating, and transportation to business and industrial operations. It is fundamental to the region's economy and quality of life.
Regional Energy Strategy
The Regional Energy Strategy (RES) is a long-term energy policy framework for the San Diego region through 2050. Updated by SANDAG in 2014, the RES supports regional decision-making around energy needs and lays out long-term goals for energy efficiency, renewable energy, distributed generation, transportation fuels, land use and transportation planning, border energy issues, and the green economy. It also identified several near-term priorities to advance energy efficiency, renewable energy, transportation electrification, local government energy planning, and water use efficiency. The RES technical update evaluated progress toward regional energy goals, updated energy forecasts and existing conditions data, and identified priorities for continued action. The strategy helped lay the foundation for subsequent regional climate and energy planning efforts.
Energy Roadmap Program
Between 2010 and 2020, SANDAG provided energy assessment and management plans to member agencies at no cost through the Energy Roadmap program. These assessments helped local governments identify opportunities to reduce energy use in municipal operations and in the community while saving money and reducing GHG emissions. The program also provided technical assistance to support implementation of energy saving projects, helping local governments advance energy efficiency initiatives, reduce operating costs, and lower GHG emissions in their communities.
