Greenhouse gases (GHGs) trap heat in Earth's atmosphere and contribute to a warming climate. Transportation is the largest source of GHG emissions in the San Diego region. SANDAG helps reduce GHG emissions through regional transportation planning, infrastructure investments, and support for local governments. The Regional Plan provides options for people to shift to lower-emission travel modes while supporting healthier communities and a cleaner environment. This includes expanding safe, convenient, and lower-emission transportation options such as walking, biking, and transit that make it easier for people to choose alternatives to driving alone. In collaboration with state and local partners, SANDAG helps promote clean transportation initiatives that help expand access to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) and charging infrastructure. SANDAG also supports local governments and regional partners by providing tools, resources, technical assistance, and regional programs that advance GHG reduction efforts such as regional climate action planning support.
