On Thursday, July 15, SANDAG and Caltrans will host a virtual public meeting to discuss transportation needs for the Coast, Canyons, and Trails Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor in the central San Diego region.

The Coast, Canyons, and Trails corridor includes the SR 52, portions of SR 67, connecting highways, and the Green and Orange Line Trolley. The study area includes the cities of San Diego, Santee, and El Cajon, as well as the County of San Diego. This corridor connects two major employment centers – Kearny Mesa and University City/Sorrento Valley – with East San Diego County and provides connections to activity centers including Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, universities, and shopping centers.

One of 11 data-driven Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plans, the study aims to create a comprehensive set of safe, sustainable, and equitable transportation solutions tailored to the needs of corridor residents, travelers, and businesses. The corridor plans are aligned with the larger regional transportation planning process, the 2021 Regional Plan, which will address questions about transportation and transit and create a blueprint for a faster, fairer, cleaner future for the San Diego region. The corridor plans are necessary to be eligible for certain state and federal funding and grant opportunities, including Senate Bill 1 funds.

In addition to the public meeting on July 15, the community is encouraged to provide input through a survey by August 15 on the Coast, Canyons, and Trails virtual engagement site, in English and Spanish.

The Coast, Canyons, and Trails Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan is anticipated to be finalized in late 2021.
