TransNet is the half-cent sales tax for local transportation projects that was first approved by voters in 1988, and then extended in 2004 for another 40 years. Administered by SANDAG, the program has been instrumental in expanding the region’s transportation system, reducing traffic congestion, and bringing critical transportation programs to life.  During the 60 year life of the program, more than $17 billion will be generated and distributed among highway, transit, and local road projects in approximately equal thirds.
