Regional Proving Ground: Become an Affiliate

MapThe San Diego Regional Proving Ground (RPG) partners welcome organizations interested in testing vehicles and technology in real-world environments. The San Diego RPG Consortium operates on a cost-recovery model and affiliates will find value in having access to other affiliates in the private sector, public sector, and academia, and informing the direction of technology research and policy that contributes to a safer future. Please contact the project manager to become an affiliate.

The San Diego Regional Proving Ground is the only proving ground that provides three real-world environments for testing road-ready technologies. Affiliates interested in conducting testing that requires roadway closures or installation of equipment in the public right-of-way should review the permit process and contact us for support with your permit application.

The San Diego Regional Proving Ground Consortium of industry affiliates, government, and academic partners met for the first time on October 19, 2017, to collaborate around connected and autonomous vehicle technology, public policy, regulations, research, and development. If you would like to receive Consortium related news and events, please contact the project manager.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has regulations for testing autonomous vehicles and issues driverless testing and deployment permits. The DMV Autonomous Vehicles in California webpage has requirements for each permit type:
