Rural Highway 94 Corridor Study

The rural Highway 94 corridor serves travel within the San Diego region and trips to and from Baja California. Future traffic volumes on Highway 94 will depend on growth and development in the San Diego region and Tecate, Mexico as well as on expansion of international trade.

SANDAG evaluated a series of transportation alternatives to accommodate future travel demands in the Highway 94 corridor east of the community of Rancho San Diego.

The study recommended a strategy that combines improvements for roads, ports of entry, and rail cargo service will likely achieve the objective of accommodating future traffic on the Highway 94 corridor while minimizing the financial burden to the San Diego region and the potential environmental impacts associated with major improvements in the sensitive corridor.
