Bayshore Bikeway: Bicycles and Pedestrians
Bayshore Bikeway

The Bayshore Bikeway is a 24-mile bicycle facility around the San Diego Bay. Currently, approximately 13 miles of bicycle paths are in use on the Bikeway. The rest of the facility consists of on-street sections designated as either bicycle lanes or bicycle routes.

SANDAG updated the Bayshore Bikeway Plan in 2006, identifying opportunities to improve the bikeway along the east side of the Bay.

New Section of the Bikeway Now Open

The City of San Diego has completed a new section of bike path between Imperial Beach and Chula Vista that will replace the current routing along Palm Avenue in South Bay. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the north end of 13th Street in Imperial Beach.

Additional Improvements Planned

SANDAG is undertaking engineering and environmental studies for the next project, which would extend the bike path north along the east side of the San Diego Bay through Chula Vista and National City to 32nd Street in the City of San Diego. Final design is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2009, with construction in 2010 if additional funding can be identified.
