SANDAG is committed to making electric vehicle (EV) charging affordable and accessible. We are working alongside other government agencies in California to promote the expansion of EV charging stations at workplaces and other public parking areas. Our charger incentive program provides rebates to property owners interested in installing publicly accessible charging stations throughout the region.
Our partnership with the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District and the California Energy Commission California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP) has made great strides since developing the program in January 2018. The San Diego County Incentive Project will provide $21.7 million over three years to fund public charging stations at businesses, commercial properties, multifamily residences, K-12 school districts, and local governments in San Diego County. In October 2020, the application for rebates of up to $80,000 on eligible electric vehicle charger equipment and installation costs was opened and within one week, all funds for both DC Fast Chargers and Level 2 Chargers were already provisionally reserved.
