SANDAG Board addresses 2050 RTP lawsuit issue

It has always been SANDAG’s intention to comply with greenhouse gas emission laws and regulations as directed by state agencies. In developing the 2050 Regional Transportation Plan, SANDAG worked very hard — and in good faith — to comply with the specific emission reduction targets established by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). CARB and the state Department of Transportation both agreed that the plan met those targets and complied with applicable laws.

In closed session on December 7, 2012, the SANDAG Board of Directors authorized its attorneys to meet with the petitioners, as they have requested, to continue settlement talks.  Resolving differences over the interpretation of climate change regulations will benefit all parties involved.  The Board also directed the legal staff to seek appeal if settlement discussions are not fruitful.
