Take the carpool pledge, win $2/gallon gas

Do you miss the days when you paid just $2 per gallon for gas at the pump? To promote carpooling, the SANDAG iCommute program is offering deeply discounted gas as part of a radio contest.

One hundred lucky winners will be randomly selected to fill up their tanks for $2 per gallon – up to 20 gallons – on July 3 at a Mira Mesa gas station – just in time for road trips during the Fourth of July holiday.

To participate in the contest featured on the Jeff & Jer Showgram on KyXy 96.5, listeners must take the “The Carpool Pledge” (as featured on before midnight Thursday, June 28. Winners will be notified by June 29.

As an added bonus, people who sign up for an iCommute account and log at least one carpool trip in TripTracker before July 5 will receive a $10 gift card sponsored by SDG&E®.

Those who join a vanpool and lease a van through VPSI or Enterprise Rideshare before July 5 will receive $50 off their first month’s lease.

Qualifying vanpools also are eligible through SANDAG for up to $400 per month to help offset the cost of the lease. Details on ridesharing promotions are available at

Commuters can save thousands of dollars a year on fuel, car maintenance, and repairs by joining a carpool or vanpool, rather than driving solo. Sharing the ride also benefits the environment by helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The radio contest is part of the SANDAG “Beat High Gas Prices” campaign, which encourages commuters to try carpooling, vanpooling, public transit, and biking as alternative ways to get to work, even if it is just once a week.

For the duration of the contest, the producer of the Jeff & Jer Showgram, Little Tommy, is offering gas-saving tips and ideas for alternative commutes to help commuters save money.
