Victims
Meeting the Needs of Violent Crime Victims
Criminal victimization can be an extremely stressful event, leaving many victims with significant levels of psychological distress. While previous research has examined how victimization can change an individual's life, less is known about how well the needs of victims are met.
Funded by the National Institute of Justice, SANDAG's Criminal Justice Research Division investigated the needs of victims of violence, and documented services available to victims. Additionally, SANDAG assessed the level of service utilization of different segments of the population, determined how coping ability varied across victims, and documented factors related to victim satisfaction with the criminal justice system.
