Comprehensive Biking and Walking
California Active Transportation Program
The Active Transportation Program (ATP) encourages increased use of active modes of transportation, such as biking and walking. The ATP is administered jointly by the California Transportation Commission (CTC) and Caltrans. Program funding is awarded in two stages, beginning with a statewide competition led by Caltrans, followed by a regional competition led by SANDAG.
Cycle 6 – 2023 ATP
Statewide
On March 16, 2022, the CTC approved the program guidelines for the 6th cycle of the ATP and released the statewide call for projects. Applications for the statewide competition were due on June 15, 2022. A list of applications received can be found on the CTC ATP webpage.
CTC staff recommendations for the statewide competition are anticipated to be released on October 21, 2022. The CTC is scheduled to adopt the list of projects recommended for funding for the statewide competition at its meeting on December 7-8, 2022.
Regional
On May 13, 2022, the SANDAG Board of Directors approved the cycle 6 regional ATP call for projects. Applications for the regional competition are due on October 7, 2022. All applications not submitted through the statewide competition must be submitted via BidNet. Applicants should review the BidNet Registration Instructions and Vendor Navigation Guide.
All applications submitted in the statewide competition are automatically considered for the Regional ATP and no further action by the applicant is necessary. Entities may also submit an application to the Regional ATP without having submitted an application to the statewide competition.
