Outreach and Education

SANDAG held its first Housing Policy Forum on February 15. Policymakers, leaders, interested stakeholders, and engaged citizens from across the region joined this virtual forum to gain an inside look at state housing legislation. The forum featured a review of current state legislation, policy trends, and a forecast of issues to watch in 2022. On the heels of the state legislative deadline, the Housing Policy Forum provided the opportunity to discuss key themes and current trends in state housing policies and potential impacts.

Date: Tuesday, February 15, 2022
Time: 12 p.m.-2 p.m.

SANDAG invites community members to engage with and develop equitable, inclusionary policy solutions that accelerate affordable housing production in our region. The SANDAG Housing Policy Leadership Academy (HPLA) by Global Policy Leadership Academy (GPLA) will support elected officials, advocates, and interested stakeholders to build local support for prohousing policies. Participants will meet virtually for 10 months to explore the root causes of the region’s housing crisis and discuss best practice policy solutions. The program will equip participants with the tools and knowledge to address the physical and social factors that sustain a healthy housing ecosystem using the 5Ps framework.

Offered in a dynamic, virtual learning environment, each session combines lectures and panel discussion with opportunities for individual reflection, small and large group discussions, and other leadership and learning activities that enable participants to craft appropriate and scalable responses to the need for housing. Participants will also work with a small group to develop one or more outcome-based policy proposals to address the unique housing challenges in your community or region.
