Comprehensive Land Use and Regional Growth Projects

Grant Opportunities

SANDAG allocates millions of dollars each year in local, state, and federal funds through several competitive grant programs. Grants awarded range from infrastructure projects to habitat management and monitoring efforts to specialized transportation services for older adults and individuals with disabilities. While each individual grant program maintains a particular focus, all work together to enhance our region’s quality of life.

List of Grant Programs

Access for All (AFA): funds projects and programs that expand on-demand Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle services for individuals with disabilities.

Active Transportation Grant Program (ATGP): funds local agency capital and planning projects that promote multiple travel choices and increase biking and walking.

California Active Transportation Program (ATP): funds active transportation projects that increase safety and mobility, reduce greenhouse emissions, enhance public health, and provide benefits to disadvantaged communities.

Environmental Mitigation Programs (EMP): funds land management and land acquisition projects that help to maintain and enhance the integrity and size of regional habitat preserves.

Housing Acceleration Program (HAP): funds local agency efforts to develop and adopt policies and process improvements to accelerate housing production.

Smart Growth Incentive Program (SGIP): funds local agency capital and planning projects that support compact, mixed-use, transit-oriented development.

Specialized Transportation Grant Program (STGP): funds projects and programs that expand mobility options for seniors and individuals with disabilities where existing services are unavailable, inappropriate or insufficient.

Grant Progress Reporting

Grants staff provide quarterly reports on grant performance to the TransNet Independent Taxpayer Oversight Committee (ITOC) and two SANDAG Policy Advisory Committees – the Transportation Committee and the Regional Planning Committee.
