Facilities for non-motorized transportation include sidewalks and bicycle facilities. It is estimated that there are currently about 510,000 bike trips per day in the San Diego region. Recently, bicycle facilities in the region have been increased, but more remains to be done. Development of pedestrian-friendly streets and neighborhoods is a priority.
SANDAG allocates funds under the TDA and TransNet local sales tax program to support bicycle and pedestrian transportation projects in the region through a competitive process on an annual basis. For FY 2010, approximately $7.7 million is available for allocation.
The Regional Bicycle Plan provides a long-range blueprint to advance the bicycling component of transportation vision established in the Regional Comprehensive Plan.
