Criminal Justice

SANDAG compiles and analyzes regional crime data using FBI Index crime information provided by local law enforcement agencies, as well as crime data obtained from the Automated Regional Justice Information System.

SANDAG Regional Criminal Justice Clearinghouse publications include comprehensive bulletins that detail midyear and annual crime data and annual arrest data in PDF format. SANDAG compiles and analyzes regional crime data using FBI Index crime information provided by local law enforcement agencies, as well as crime data obtained from the Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS). The FBI Index includes four violent offenses (willful homicide, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) and three types of property crime (burglary, larceny theft, and motor vehicle theft). Measures of police performance in solving crimes and returning stolen property also are available, as is bi-annual information about the characteristics of crime victims. Annual arrest data is based on the Monthly Arrest Citation Register and are available for individual law enforcement agencies, the region, state, and the five most populated counties in California. The information is presented for adults and juveniles by offense, age, sex, and race/ethnicity.
