Notice of Vacancy - Social Services Transportation Advisory Council

The Social Services Transportation Advisory Council (SSTAC) currently has four openings for Citizen members and one position for a Social Service Provider for Persons with Disabilities.  During the term citizen members will rotate from voting member to advisory member.  The open citizen positions are:

• One representative of potential transit users who is 60 years of age or older
• One representative of potential transit users who is disabled
• Two persons who can represent the issues of potential transit users who are seniors, persons with disabilities or persons of limited income and are well versed in the Americans with Disabilities Act and Title 24 Regulations.

All positions are for three years beginning on September 1, 2010. 

The mission of the Social Services Transportation Advisory Council (SSTAC) is to review, recommend and encourage the use of accessible transportation services through:

• Promoting the coordination of transportation serving seniors, individuals with disabilities, and persons of limited means;
• Advising SANDAG staff on transit facilities compliance with the requirements of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and Title 24; and
• Advising SANDAG staff on the accessibility and usability of transit facilities beyond strict interpretation of regulations based on actual experience and knowledge.

SSTAC meets on the third Monday of every other month at 401 B Street in the SANDAG offices.  Members or represented agencies that miss three consecutive meetings may be unseated.  SSTAC members do not receive any remuneration for serving on this Council.  The current SANDAG and SSTAC policy is to provide free parking of up to two hours while attending a SSTAC meeting, or to provide a transit pass for travel to and from SSTAC meetings.
