After an extensive public review period that generated more than 500 public comments and included five regional workshops and a public hearing, the $57 billion 2030 San Diego Regional Transportation Plan: Pathways for the Future (RTP or Plan) and its Environmental Impact Report were approved by the SANDAG Board of Directors on November 30, 2007.
The RTP incorporates a new regional growth forecast, strategic initiatives from the Regional Comprehensive Plan, the Independent Transit Planning Review, and several other white papers on topics not previously covered in the RTP.
An extensive Public Involvement Program was conducted as part of the RTP update process. The goal of the program was to secure participation from a broad range of groups and individuals in the RTP development and decision-making process. Activities included a community-based outreach program, updates in rEgion newsletter, public speaking engagements, and more. Public workshops to solicit public comment and participation on the Draft 2007 RTP were held throughout the region in July at the Encinitas Community Center; Balboa Park War Memorial Building; Chula Vista City Hall; San Marcos Community Center; and Ronald Reagan Community Center in El Cajon.
