Del Mar bluffs
stabilization project update Del Mar Bluffs

SANDAG is working to stabilize the bluffs along the railroad track within the North County Transit District railroad right-of-way. Most of the work will occur from near 12th Street to just south of the railroad crossing at Ocean Ave. Two smaller areas, one near 8th Street and another at Anderson Canyon just north of Torrey Pines State Beach, also will be stabilized.

Preparatory work commenced in late May 2007.   Pile installation, a process where large metal columns are placed underground to stabilize the area, commenced late June 2007 beginning at the northern end of the project near Ocean Avenue and then proceeding south to 8th Street and then on to Anderson Canyon near Torrey Pines State Beach.  Additional retaining wall work followed proceeding in the opposite direction of how the piles were installed.  Work appears to be ahead of schedule and is anticipated to be completed in late 2007. The most significant portion of the work is required to take place from approximately 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday evenings, when rail service is suspended.
