The Transit Alliance for a
Better
North
County
was created with assistance from the North County Transit District (NCTD) to educate and mobilize citizens and organizations around the issues affecting the area’s expanding public transportation needs. In addition to stimulating public support for the need for adequate transit funding, the
Alliance
is focused on project advocacy, encouraging transit oriented development and establishing a communications channel between transit users and transit providers in
North
County
.
“For residents and organizations who want to spur
North
County
toward a world-class transportation system, participation in the
Alliance
provides a key opportunity to achieve that goal,” said Ted Owen, president of the
Alliance
and current president and CEO of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.
The first meeting of the Transit Alliance was held on Tuesday, September 28, aboard the COASTER commuter rail. The inaugural event generated enthusiasm and united community leaders who share the belief that public transportation is essential to North County’s quality of life. The meeting was well attended by representatives from the social service sector, area businesses, health and human services, environmental groups, smart growth advocates, as well as senior and disabled organizations.
The
Alliance
is open to all who believe in the advancement of public transportation in our region. Persons interested in joining the
Alliance
are welcome and encouraged to contact Brad Wiscons.
