I-5/805 widening event held October 15

Local and state officials broke ground on a $168 million project to extend carpool lanes on I-5 and I-805 by 2012. On I-5, carpool lanes will be extended from Via de la Valle to Manchester Avenue by 2010. On I-805, construction on lanes from near Mira Mesa Boulevard to south of the I-5 split is expected to be complete by 2012. This project is the first in the state to receive money from the California Congestion Mobility Improvement Account that is part of the $20 billion Proposition 1B transportation bond approved by voters last November.

“It doesn’t surprise me that this first project is here in San Diego County, as we were ready with good projects that will speed relief to our commuters,” said Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny. “This project will improve that gateway by adding HOV lanes, rebuilding the Lomas Santa Fe interchange, and construction of a Direct Access Ramp at Carroll Canyon Road for carpools and transit.  This will free up one of our most congested corridors for the 250,000 vehicles a day that use it.”
