San Diego employers honored for commuting savvy

More employers than ever sparkled at the fourth annual Diamond Awards on February 22, presented by SANDAG’s RideLink program. The event, sponsored by Enterprise Rideshare and emceed by NBC 7/39 traffic reporter Kimberly King, recognizes employers that implement outstanding workplace commuter programs.

The region’s transportation system experiences tremendous demands, particularly during morning and afternoon rush hours. SANDAG created the Diamond Awards to honor those companies and individuals who have made a commitment to creating options for commuters and to promote the programs and activities they have established.

”We salute the employers in the San Diego region – from the large corporations to the small and medium sized businesses – who are taking an active role in helping to reduce growing traffic congestion by offering commuting choices to their workforce,” said Gary Gallegos, SANDAG executive director.“ By using the variety services offered by our RideLink program, local businesses are stepping forward to help all of us ‘Survive the Drive.’”

Diamond Award recipients must promote alternatives to single-occupancy vehicle use. These commute alternatives can include vanpooling, carpooling, use of public transit or the Coaster, teleworking, walking, biking or a combination of these. Employers can also provide incentives, subsidies or pre-tax deductions to their employers for their participation in eligible programs.
