On Thursday, June 2, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) dedicated 48 low-floor, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses that will offer improved service to riders in the
San
Diego region.
The ceremony officially marked MTS’ first updated look in 20 years complete with a dynamic red and white color scheme and MTS' crisp new logo.
In other regional transit news, MTS is preparing to open its Mission Valley East trolley line extension on July 10th. This new Green Line will close a critical 5.9-mile gap in the existing system. First envisioned by MTS more than 25 years ago, the $506 million project should provide San Diegans with increased mobility within the busy Interstate 8 corridor. A pre-revenue Community Ride Day will be held on July 9th from the Qualcomm Stadium station to the Santee Town Center.
As one of four new stops along the Green Line, the San Diego State University (SDSU) underground trolley station is already garnering local, state, and national attention as a gem in the region’s transportation system. It is projected that over 4,300 students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus will use the SDSU Station each day. A new bus transit plaza, located directly above the new trolley station, opened in November 2004 and will be serviced by MTS’ latest CNG vehicles.
The other new stops along the Green Line are Grantville Station complete with a unique architectural design that features a set of 40-foot high elevated platforms and high-capacity elevators; Alvarado Hospital Medical Center Station; and
70
th
Street
Station.
