QuickPark arrives at select COASTER parking lots
Starting August 17, COASTER riders who park at the Carlsbad Village, Carlsbad Poinsettia, and Encinitas stations Monday through Friday can take advantage of QuickPark, a new service that includes preferential parking spaces for carpools and vanpools and advance reservation capability for solo drivers to guarantee an up front parking space.

Guarantee your ride home with iCommute
Commuters who carpool, vanpool, take an express bus, ride the COASTER, or bike to work three or more times a week have a safety net with the Guaranteed Ride Home program.

New online SchoolPool program debuts
To ease traffic congestion and help parents juggle their busy schedules, a new online carpool ridematching application called SchoolPool is being launched for the 2009-10 school year.

Economic impact of algal biofuel research
The SANDAG Service Bureau, the consulting arm of SANDAG, offers timely, relevant analysis on today’s issues. Recently, the SANDAG Service Bureau was retained by the new UCSD San Diego Center for Algae Biotechnology to estimate the anticipated economic impact of algal biofuel research on the regional economy.

Homicide victimization varies by age, ethnicity, and motive
In 2008, there were 90 homicides in San Diego County, which was the third lowest number in the past 25 years, or a 15 percent decrease from 2007. An examination of these crimes provides a glimpse into the characteristics of the victims, as well as what motives were involved in their victimizations.
