The third group of Metropolitan Transit System (MTS)/Coca-Cola High School Senior Scholarship Award winners has been announced. A panel of judges reviewed close to 100 essays written by high school seniors from schools throughout the county. The topic of the essay was the importance of the new MTS Trolley Green Line to San Diego which opens on July 10, 2005.
Each of the 27 winning students received a state-of-the-art Gateway laptop computer donated by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southern California and a certificate from the MTS Board of Directors.
The students were honored at the June 23, 2005 MTS Board Meeting. They are: Suzana Arellano, SDHS of International Studies; Paulin Chitoya, Crawford High School of Law and Business; Jadi Conkling, San Diego High School; Darrell Enriquez, Morse High School; Alan Alejandro Espino, Herbert Hoover High School; Michael Fiszman, High Tech High School; Henry Finkelstein, La Jolla High School; Ashley Gambrell, University of San Diego High School; Adam Garrie, La Jolla High School; Ashley Grove, Point Loma High School; Raquel Ramirez Gomez, Herbert Hoover High School; Emily Grant, La Jolla High School; and Kelly Lam, Sweetwater High School.
Also selected are Alejandra Navarro, Chula Vista High School; Hahn Nguyen, The Preuss School at UCSD; Monica Nguyen, Mira Mesa High School; Dwight Nwaigwe, Preuss School at UCSD; Jennifer Pangarian, James Madison High School; Yasmin Perez, San Diego High School; Torey Raphael, Mount Carmel High School; Evelyn Robarts, Valley Center High School; Adam Sacks, La Jolla High School; Panna Felson, La Costa Canyon High School; Jeffrey Rapp, Montgomery High School; Ashley Richards, Academy of Our Lady of Peace; James Watts, Chula Vista High School; and Roxanne Winston, SD School of Creative & Performing Arts.
The MTS and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southern California co-sponsor the scholarship program along with support from the San Diego Office of Education. “MTS is proud to work with Coca-Cola and the County Office of Education to challenge our youth to learn more about the importance of public transit in San Diego, and to provide these students with a tangible reward for their hard work,” said MTS Chief Executive Officer Paul Jablonski.
