Regional Transportation Update
SANDAG Sets the Wheels in Motion on MOBILITY 2030

Throughout the past several months, SANDAG hosted a number of events allowing the public to learn more about and comment on its draft 2030 Regional Transportation Plan, MOBILITY 2030. The $42 billion Plan is the blueprint to address the mobility challenges created by our region's growing population and employment. It contains an integrated set of public policies, strategies, and investments to maintain, manage, and improve the transportation system in the San Diego region.

SANDAG held a public hearing at its December 6 Board meeting and then held public workshops at north, east, and south county locations. Staff from SANDAG, Caltrans, the North County Transit District, and the Metropolitan Transit Development Board were on hand to answer questions and hear comments from residents. Residents also had the opportunity to have their comments documented by a court reporter. SANDAG accepted public comment on the plan through December 30.

On January 17, the Transportation Committee will review all public comments and responses to those comments as well as proposed modifications to the RTP such as changes to highway and transit networks. The SANDAG Board then will review the proposed modifications at its January 24 Board meeting. After reviewing a final draft in February, the SANDAG Board is scheduled to adopt the final RTP and certify the Environmental Impact Report in March.

Thanks to the input from hundreds of citizens and special interest groups, the Regional Transportation Plan will improve transportation for the region's residents well into the 21st century.

Updates to the RTP can be found on the SANDAG Web site. For more information on the RTP, please call (619) 595-5300.
