SANDAG kicks off Walk, Ride, and Roll to School program The new Walk, Ride, and Roll to School program aims to increase the number of children walking and biking to school, raise awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and help combat childhood obesity, all while improving pedestrian and bicycle safety and air quality. “Our goal is to give the region choices,” SANDAG Executive Director Gary Gallegos said. “This program makes it easier for parents and children to make healthy choices, while at the same time saving money, reducing traffic congestion, and helping the environment.” For a school to participate in the campaign, a school administrator must register online by April 15, 2011, at www.iCommuteSD.com and agree to the program guidelines. In honor of International Walk and Bike to School Day in October 2011, a month-long challenge will take place; registered schools will get a chance to win $1,000 in classroom supplies. Any K-12 school within San Diego County is eligible to participate.
