Free workshops aims to carpool
increase workplace flexibility

SANDAG and the U.S. Department of Labor – Women’s Bureau teamed up on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, to highlight workplace flexibility options available to employers in the San Diego region.

Employers learned about available options to implement programs that help ease traffic congestion, reduce air pollution, boost productivity in the workplace, and help organization’s bottom line. The forum offered information about transportation benefit programs, tax savings available for employers, and how to implement telecommuting programs. It included a panel discussion with local employers that offer transportation and flex option. The panel included Kelly Jenkins-Pultz from the Women’s Bureau, Debra Gutzmer from SAIC, and Deborah Jones from SANDAG.  Each presenter described their experiences with telework and setting up commuting programs that benefit employees.

The forum, held in the SANDAG Board Room, was open to all employers in San Diego County. Eighteen local employers attended the event. Six employers signed up to receive assistance from the Women’s Bureau with starting a telework pilot program for their organization. Over half of employers present were interested in starting some type of commuter program for their employees.

SANDAG helps small, medium, and large-sized companies customize transportation benefits programs for the workplace.
