RideLink 2007 Commuter Survey results RideLink

Recent survey results pinpoint cost, convenience, and less driving/more personal time as deciding factors for regional commuters when choosing a preferred transportation mode to work. More than 300 people completed a RideLink 2007 Commuter Survey in October as part of a month-long celebration of Rideshare Week, which was held nationally October 1-5.  Rideshare Week celebrates commute alternatives by encouraging people to carpool, vanpool, ride transit, walk, bike, or telecommute to work just one day a week instead of driving alone.

Survey results also indicate that, of all commuters who choose an alternative to driving alone, transit is the most popular choice with 40 percent. It also is the transportation mode indicated by the highest number of respondents to be utilized three or more times per week, other than driving alone.

Other results include:

  • 50% of commuters indicated they drove alone at least one day per week
  • 16% said they carpooled one or more days per week
  • 7% said they biked one or more days per week
  • 6% said they vanpooled one or more days per week
  • 5% said they walked one or more days per week
  • 4% said they telecommuted one or more days per week

Join the thousands of San Diego commuters who already ride the bus, Trolley or COASTER, carpool or vanpool, bike or walk to work, or telecommute every day -- you’ll save on gas, reduce traffic, and help improve our environment. More information is available at www.ridelink.511sd.com or dial 511 from any phone and ask for RideLink.

RideLink is the San Diego regional transportation assistance program managed by SANDAG. RideLink assists commuters with ridematching services, transit options, a guaranteed ride home program, regional bicycle lockers, the regional vanpool program, and SchoolPool services. RideLink also provides free consulting services to help local businesses implement employee commute programs.
