Get in gear with Bike to Work Day 2009 Friday, May 15, 2009, is San Diego Regional Bike to Work Day. Join thousands of other bicycle commuters and enjoy “Bicycle commuting is a great way tosqueeze regular exercise into a hectic schedule,” according to the League of American Bicyclists Web site, www.bikeleague.org. “Commuting time can be used to stay in shape instead of sitting frustrated in traffic. Bicycle commuters get to work on time more often and are happier and more productive. Eighty percent of people who switch from sedentary commuting to cycling improve their heart, lungs, and blood vessels greatly in six to eight weeks, so they get sick much less often.” You may think you don’t have time to bicycle to work, but for distances of five miles or less, bicycling may actually take less time than driving and finding parking. To help riders with their commute on Bike to Work Day, over 40 pit stops will be located throughout the region. Participants will be offered free snacks, beverages, and encouragement. Everyone who registers for Bike to Work Day will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win excellent prizes, including an electric bicycle, bicycle related gift certificates, and other prizes.
