Bike to Work Day is May 16 Bike to Work Day 2008

Bike to Work Day is right around the corner! Each year SANDAG sponsors this unique event to help commuters consider bicycling to work as a viable option to driving. With more than 1,000 miles of bikeways in the San Diego region, biking to work is an excellent alternative to the daily traffic grind and offers you a healthier, less stressful commute!  To help you on your ride, Pit Stops will be provided around the region where you can take a break and get some free refreshments.

Visit www.ridelink.org to register for Bike to Work Day 2008, also sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union.  Register early and have a chance to win some great prizes. Even if you don't register before May 16, be sure to sign in at your local Pit Stops on the day of the event to show your support for bike commuting and send a message to others about this great alternative to driving.  Free bike maps also can be ordered are online.

In addition to biking to work, try biking to weekend events such as a Sunday San Diego Padres games. The free, secure Bicycle Parking Pavilion is located at Park Boulevard and Tony Gwynn Drive. It opens at 11 a.m. before game time and closes about a half-hour after the game ends.

On Sunday, May 25 ride your bike to the Padres game and sit with hundreds of other cycling Padres fans. This Pedal to the Park event costs $25 - $35 and includes a ticket to the game. More information, including registration details, route maps, and descriptions, are posted at www.pedaltothepark.com. On event day, you will check-in at the Balboa Park War Memorial Building (north end of Zoo Parking lot) location to receive your game ticket and start your ride.

If you want more information about Bike to Work Day 2008 or bicycling in general, please e-mail RideLink at biking@sandag.org or call 511 and ask for RideLink.
